Gerald A. Lord
Jerry joined MPL in 1995 and was named partner in 1998. He limits his practice to very select areas, which include advice and representation in local, state, federal and international criminal investigations and prosecutions; direct appeals of criminal convictions in state and federal courts; post conviction relief act and federal habeas corpus petitions and appeals; pardons, commutations and expungements; collateral consequences of criminal convictions -- such as obtaining firearms permits, immigration removal and deportation proceedings, drivers license suspensions and revocations; and professional license matters for those individuals who face sanctions because of criminal conduct or unethical conduct that does not necessarily include criminal charges.
Jerry has tried over 120 cases before state and federal juries. He first served as an assistant district attorney for the York County District Attorney's Office between 1988 and 1992. Over that four-year period he prosecuted hundreds of adult and juvenile criminal cases, ranging from first-degree murder to summary conviction appeals of traffic violations. He argued most of the defense appeals on the part of the Commonwealth, as well as federal habeas corpus appeals from prisoners who were appealing state court convictions. In addition to his regular caseload, he led the county's extradition unit and he lectured on behalf of the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association.
Since going into private practice in 1992, Jerry has defended persons and companies charged with various state and federal offenses - including money laundering, bank fraud, murder and numerous other criminal offenses.
Jerry is admitted to practice before all Pennsylvania Courts, the United States District Courts for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Jerry lectures regularly at continuing legal education seminars for fellow attorneys on various topics, including tax fraud, sentencing guidelines in Pennsylvania and Federal courts, preparation for trial and post conviction rights of persons and corporations.
